Online higher education is not new, but in 2013 it caught crowd attention. Thousands of media stories about "Grantham University" – massive online distance university – drove a much in enrollments. Established in 1951, the university has student strength of about 13,000. Additionally, their online graduate programs will be priced to be highly competitive in the markets in which they enter. They believe that integrating online instruction into curriculum will create opportunities for new, powerful forms of instruction, collaboration, and student assessment.
With online or distance learning becoming desirable in higher education, the need for university to be able to create quality online education is greater than ever. Discussion boards can also be used to forget social presence. Create a space on them where non-class content can be discussed. Even technology is now providing testing and coaching tools that conventional lecturers can barely imagine. It shows that learning gains from high-quality online instruction exceed or equal those from conventional lecture-system instruction.
